By installing or using Austin's Transcriptor, you agree to these terms. If you don't, please uninstall the app.
The app
Austin's Transcriptor ("the app") is a macOS application owned and operated by Austin Munday ("we", "us"). It transcribes audio files on your Mac using open-source machine-learning models. The app is provided to you under a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to install and use it on Macs you own.
Free tier and lifetime upgrade
The app is free to download. The free tier is capped at 5 transcriptions per local calendar day; the counter resets at midnight in your time zone. The free tier also includes an automatic on-device AI executive summary for every transcript at no cost. An optional one-time purchase removes the daily transcription cap permanently and unlocks the rest of the AI Transcript Tools (regenerated summaries, titles, threads, and full AI chat).
- Price: $39.99 USD one-time, or local equivalent priced by Apple.
- Type: non-consumable in-app purchase. There is no subscription, no auto-renewal, and no recurring charge.
- Scope (lifetime): the purchase is tied to your Apple ID and works on every Mac you sign into with that Apple ID, as long as the Mac App Store recognizes you as the purchaser. "Lifetime" means the upgrade does not expire and is never re-charged; you can restore it forever via Restore Purchases.
- Restore: choose Restore Purchases from the app's App menu to re-sync your purchase on a new Mac.
- Refunds: refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not process refunds directly.
- Payment: charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Apple processes all payments. We never see your payment details.
Transcription accuracy
The Whisper models downloaded by this app are accurate enough for most uses but not perfect. Output quality depends on audio quality, accents, background noise, model size, and many other factors. The app produces a transcript; you are responsible for reviewing it before relying on it for any consequential decision (legal, medical, journalistic, financial, etc.).
Models and intellectual property
The app's source code, design, brand, and UI are owned by Austin Munday. The Whisper inference engine is open-source under MIT (see whisper.cpp). The Whisper model weights are released by OpenAI under MIT. The Gemma 4 large language model is released by Google DeepMind under Apache 2.0; usage is subject to Google's Gemma Prohibited Use Policy. The MLX inference framework is released by Apple under MIT. We use these components in compliance with their licenses.
Transcripts you produce with the app are yours. We claim no ownership of your audio, transcripts, or any derivative work.
Acceptable use
You agree not to: reverse-engineer or decompile the app except as permitted by applicable law; use the app to violate any law (including unlawful recording, copyright, or privacy laws in your jurisdiction); circumvent or attempt to circumvent the in-app purchase mechanisms or any technical protection measures; use the app to produce, automate, or distribute material that infringes others' rights; or use the AI Transcript Tools to produce content that violates Google's Gemma Prohibited Use Policy.
Recording someone without their consent may be illegal in your state or country. You are responsible for complying with the recording, wiretap, and consent laws that apply to you.
Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, accurate, or free from errors.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us (which is at most the one-time lifetime purchase price) or fifty US dollars, whichever is greater.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the app if you materially breach these terms. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. The lifetime upgrade remains tied to your Apple ID per Apple's policies.
Changes
We may update these terms. If the changes are material, we'll update the effective date and, where appropriate, surface the change in-app.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Pinellas County, Florida, unless otherwise required by mandatory consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction.
